What is Supported Independent Living (SIL) ?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a type of support provided under the NDIS to help individuals with disabilities live as independently as possible in their own homes. SIL includes assistance with daily tasks such as personal care, cooking, cleaning, and developing routines. It also involves support for personal safety and security, medication management, and community access for activities like attending social events or visiting family and friends. SIL is best suited for people with higher support needs who require help throughout the day and night.

Participants live in a shared house with other individuals and receive support from staff who are available to assist with daily activities and personal care.

Participants live on their own or with a chosen companion, and support staff visit regularly to provide assistance with daily tasks and personal care as needed.

Participants live in separate units within a single complex or building, allowing for individual living with the option of nearby support if required.

This involves a support worker living with the participant in their home, or have supports workers come and providing around-the-clock care and assistance.
